The Bank was chartered on February 10, 1910, operating as the Farmers & Merchants State Bank. Doors were opened for business on February 26 in the old Bowman bank building located at the corner of Broadway and Elm Streets. In 1911, the facility moved to a building on the west side of Superior Street. The bank subsequently moved to a remodeled building at the corner of Broadway and Oak Streets in 1923. In 1944, Farmers & Merchants State Bank took over the assets of Kilbourn State Bank, an institution established in 1884, and moved to the corner of Broadway and Superior Streets. Farmers & Merchants State Bank broke ground at its present location in 1960, and the new building was completed in 1961. In June of 1969, the name was changed to Bank of Wisconsin Dells. Remodeling to include drive-up banking and more convenient customer facilities was undertaken in 1980 and again in 1990. The Lake Delton branch was opened in 1968, moved to its present location in 1971, and has since been remodeled and enlarged. A second full-service branch, Community Bank of Portage, was opened in Portage in July of 1996, and was enlarged in 2001. The Bank of Wisconsin Dells has adapted to the 21st Century and the changing banking world by offering telephone and internet banking. We continue to strive to offer high quality customer service, and products that meet the financial needs of businesses and consumers within our area. |
